Salerno

Salerno is a fascinating synthesis of what the Mediterranean can offer to those who want to know more closely.
The city always offers more as a welcoming community for tourists and visitors from around the world.

Its province is the largest of Campania and along with the Amalfi , the archaeological site of Paestum and Cilento coast, also includes the high plains crossed by the Sele River and its tributaries, and the Vallo Diano.
From above, in the bright frame of sea and sky, Salerno seems to cling to the sides of the mountain, in a spectacular position on the gulf.
The city became the most prosperous center of the South with the conquest of the Lombards in the eighth century, especially with the Duke Arechi II.
Seat of the Principality, Salerno knew a period of splendor, even becoming an important center of studies with the famous Salerno Medical School , the oldest Western medical establishment.
After the Lombards, the Normans and then the Swabians to encourage the growth of the city, which stopped only in the sixteenth century, when power passed into the hands of the Spaniards. In September 1943, Salerno was the landing stage of the allies.
Today Salerno is a city in full revival, scene of a transformation in the laboratory city, urban revitalization model of international importance.
The heart of the city is the medieval quarter, whose main artery is via merchant.

The narrow streets, now filled with shops, follow the traces of the medieval town, preserving the beautiful period buildings and much of religious architecture. Commercial hub of city life are the nineteenth-century neighborhoods near the beautiful promenade Trieste, one of the longest in Italy, flanked by palm trees, from which you can enjoy the beautiful views of the gulf.
A green oasis is the public garden, the beautiful public garden next to the Municipal Theatre Giuseppe Verdi.
